Cycling

There are plenty of opportunities for cycling in Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark, both on tarmac and on cross-country bridleways and green lanes.

You can take your bike to places that you can’t reach by car.  Ordnance Survey maps show all of the bridleways, byways and green lanes* that are reserved for walkers, riders and cyclists!

Green lanes are generally marked as ‘other routes with public access’ on modern OS maps, some are legally available to motorists, some are not.

It is worth planning your trip in advance.  Check out these routes in particular:

  • Taff Trail (eastern loop from Merthyr Tydfil to Brecon via Taf Fechan Forest, Torpantau and Talybont)
  • Penderyn Quarry Line (the ‘Arcway’ down to Hirwaun)

Visit the cycling page on the Brecon Beacons National Park website.
