The Fforest Fawr Geopark Festival starts on Saturday 22nd May and runs for two weeks - check out the programme.

 

Saturday 1 May

Lost Lakes and Summer Pastures – Family Friendly Guided Walk 

Times: 13:30-16.30

Join us for a family-friendly walk set amongst the spectacular scenery of the Carmarthen Fans. Visit the mysterious Llyn y Fan Fach in the shadow of the mountain and hear tales of lost lakes and mighty glaciers. Explore the foot of the escarpment and learn about the seasonal movement of people and animals across this dramatic landscape in years gone by. Suitable for families and children but not buggies. Sorry no dogs.

Length, Grade & Ascent: 4.5m/7.2km, Moderate, 406m.

Meet: The car park at the Water Board road on the northern side of the Fans (SN 809238).

Sunday 2 May

Llech Valley Field Study Trip

Time: meet at 2pm

We will walk through the Llech site of special scientific interest, with a rich variety of woodland plant communities. We will also visit Henrhyd falls flowing off Millstone Grit onto Coal Measures, and owned by the National Trust. There is a four year old landslip. A shuttle will take drivers back to their cars.

Length, grade & ascent: 3 miles / 5km, Moderate

Sunday 2 May

A Beacons Circuit – Guided Walk

Times: 10:00-17:00(repeated Friday 16 July, Saturday 16 October)

Take in all the ‘high points’ of the Beacons on this walk over the tops of Corn Du and Pen y Fan, taking in the Tommy Jones Obelisk, the Upper Neuadd Reservoir and Craig Fan Ddu and learn a little about the glacial formations and local history along the way.

Length, Grade & Ascent: 10m / 16km, Strenuous, 800m.

Meet: Storey Arms car park on the A470, 8 miles south of Brecon (SN 982 203). No charge.

Saturday 8 May

A New Twist on an Old Trail– Guided Walk

Times: 09:00-17:00 (repeated 5 June, 10 July, 7 August)

Held in conjunction with Forestry Commission Wales

Join local countryside managers on this seldom used route onto Pen y Fan from Garwnant. This walk will take you on an interesting and challenging journey to the summit of South Wales’ highest mountain, through a varied and ever-changing landscape. Experience spectacular views and find out how the work of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Forestry Commission is helping to protect and manage this dramatic environment. No dogs please. Booking essential.
