Llandeilo
Western gateway to the Geopark
The ancient town of Llandeilo lies just outside the border of the Geopark but acts as its western gateway
The lie of the land
The community ranges in height from around 25m in the floodplain of the River Towy to 102m within Dinefwr Park.
Solid rocks
The community is underlain by a series of sandstones and mudstones of Ordovician age.
Legacy of the Ice Ages
A major glacier - the Towy Valley Glacier - ground through this area during the ice ages.
Archaeology
Dinefwr Park is rich in history; the house and gardens in the care of the National Trust whilst the castle is managed by Cadw.

Sheets 212 'Llandovery' and 230 'Ammanford' of the British Geological Survey's 1:50,000 geological map series together provide complete coverage of the bedrock and superficial geology of the Community. Sheet 230 is available in two editions. BGS publish a 'sheet explanation' to accompany sheet 212.

Public transport
The A483 and A40 trunk roads run through the Community as does the Heart of Wales Railway line with stations at Llandeilo and nearby Ffairfach.
