About the Geopark

The establishment of Fforest Fawr Geopark

The Geopark was accepted into the European Geopark Network in 2005 and susequently became a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in October 2006.

Our aims

To promote the wider understanding of the area’s geological heritage and to encourage the development of sustainable tourism based upon that heritage for the benefit of both residents and vistors to the area.

The Geopark Management Board

The Management Board represents a wide range of interests.  It meets annually.  The president of Fforest Fawr Geopark is Neil Kinnock.

The Geopark Management Group

The Management Group meets three times a year to consider strategic and policy matters regarding the dvelopment of the Geopark. It draws its membership from the following organisations:

The Core Partners

Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, the British Geological Survey and Cardiff University work closely together through the Core Partners Group.  These three organisations are actively implementing actions identified in the Geopark Action Plan.
